Media Production
Justin graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 2013 with a Bachelor of the Arts in Communication Studies, with a focus in Video and Audio Production and minors in Music and History. With a passion for combining live video footage with studio-quality sound recording, Justin developed a 5-song “video EP” for his college band Clockwork Kids in lieu of a senior thesis, using resources at the UNC Communications Department and organizing a camera and audio crew to pull off the 6-song, 5-video project, all live over the course of a weekend. You can find “The Swain Sessions” below.
This experience led to a 2014 video editing internship at Yep Roc Records in Hillsborough, NC, where Justin helped film, produce, and edit content for the label’s “Sawyer Sessions” video series. This included working with such artists as Jukebox The Ghost, Mandolin Orange, Jim White, and the Packway Handle Band, among others. Upon completeing this internship, Justin worked for Yep Roc’s parent company Redeye Distribution for a short time, leaving amicably, and teaming up with them a few years later to help release the Happy Abandon LP “Facepaint”.
Nowadays, Justin still makes audio and video work for his own projects and assists on sets, the fruits of which are scattered all over the website at “Previous Work” and “Songs”. Justin has used Adobe Audition + Premiere, Logic, ProTools, Final Cut, and many more video editors and DAW’s throughout his career.
Graphic Design
As a former poster guy for Triangle music venues such as Local 506, Motorco Music Hall, and the Cat's Cradle, Justin has plenty of experience with the visual side of show promotion, and has produced several pieces of his own. A smattering of this is below. Justin’s software of choice for graphic design work is GIMP.
